Under Virginia Code § 47.1-12, no Notary Public may certify a photocopy of a birth certificate, marriage certificate, death certificate, or divorce decree because official certified copies must come from the government custodian (Virginia Division of Vital Records or Circuit Court Clerk).
However, here is how we legally accomplish what you actually need: (a) if you need an official certified copy of a marriage record or divorce decree filed in Loudoun (Leesburg), Fairfax, or Prince William (Manassas) Circuit Court, our $175.00 Courthouse Filing & Retrieval Service pulls the authentic Clerk-certified copy for you; (b) if you already hold a Virginia Vital Records or Clerk-certified copy issued within the last 12 months and need it authenticated for overseas dual citizenship, visa, or marriage abroad, our $350.00 Virginia Apostille Service facilitates the Secretary of the Commonwealth Apostille; and (c) if you need certified copies of Passports, Driver's Licenses, or Diplomas, Virginia law DOES allow us to certify those directly at your door for $110.00!
Under Virginia Code § 47.1-15.1, a Virginia Notary Public is strictly prohibited from representing themselves as a Latin American 'Notario Público' or offering immigration consultation, selecting USCIS visa forms, or advising on immigration eligibility. What we DO lawfully perform every day ($110.00 base + $10.00 per extra seal) is notarizing your already-completed, English-certificate immigration support affidavits—including I-130 Bona Fide Marriage Third-Party Sworn Affidavits, Affidavits of Support, Certified English Translator Declarations (notarizing the translator's sworn signature on a Certificate of Translation Accuracy), and Minor International Travel Consents.
Finally, unlike Florida, South Carolina, Maine, or Montana, a Virginia Notary Public commission does NOT authorize officiating wedding ceremonies (Virginia requires a Circuit Court-bonded marriage celebrant or ordained minister). We DO, however, notarize Prenuptial Agreements, Postnuptial Agreements, Single-Status Affidavits for destination weddings abroad ($110.00, or $350.00 with Apostille), and Marriage Name-Change Affidavits!
Protecting your filing from government rejection while getting your real goal accomplished fast.
